Get out and make the most of warmer weather!
As you know, at NorCal Healthy Solutions we do not encourage rigorous exercise. Instead, we recommend getting and staying active as part of a happy, healthy lifestyle. In a recent blog post we suggested some fun, low impact exercises to help get you moving during the cold weather months. Now that warmer weather is approaching, we’d like to share a few ideas for activities that will get you moving without feeling like a workout. Why not give them all a try?
Golfing – Golf gets a bad rap as a lazy person’s sport. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. A round of golf incorporates cardiovascular exercise and strength training. It also requires balance and coordination. Not interested in taking up a brand new sport? Miniature golf is a terrific low impact activity that’s fun for the entire family.
Swimming – Whether it’s laps, water aerobics or just splashing around, swimming is one of the best low impact exercises you can do. In addition to being a total body workout, swimming is easy on the joints, great cardio, and a refreshing way to beat the heat. And don’t forget the ocean. Provided the surf isn’t too rough and there’s a lifeguard on duty, take an energizing dip at the beach.
Rollerblading and roller skating – It’s hard to believe such fun activities can be great exercise, but they are. Both rollerblading and roller skating are low impact, excellent cross training, and work both your arms and legs. If you aren’t comfortable on blades or skates already, rent a pair and practice at your local rink. Once you feel confident, hit your local bike path and glide your way to a fun, healthy time!
